If you’re a fan of The Painted Burro but the idea of taking the Red Line all the way to Somerville makes you pause, there’s good news for you. A new spinoff location, Burro Bar, has recently opened on Washington in the South End. Packing the same boisterous atmosphere into a slightly smaller space, Chef Joe Cassinelli presides over a menu of beachy, modern Mexican street fare.
The tightly curated dinner menu is organized into shareable appetizers and quesos, seafood, tacos, and entrees. OpenTable and Yelp reviewers recommend the guacamole with pork belly, roasted cauliflower or lobster enchiladas (depending on how carnivorous you’re feeling), and the mahi mahi tacos. Make sure to avail yourself of the cocktail list—there are over 100 tequilas on offer, not to mention a nice selection of beer and wine. The kitchen is open until 11 p.m. every night, and the bar serves drinks until 1 a.m.
